Bible belt here we come-

I despise New Labour i really do. Slide that wedge in for the fundies to clamour through :breathefi

"Pupils in England will be required to discuss creationist theories as part of a new GCSE biology course being introduced in September."

In England, the change is taking place alongside the promotion of faith schools and anxieties about the teaching of creationist views in Emmanuel school, Gateshead, an academy sponsored by the Christian millionaire Sir Peter Vardy.

The new OCR biology syllabus for GCSE says pupils should be able to "explain that the fossil record has been interpreted differently over time (eg creationist interpretation)".

The chairman of the Creation Science Movement, David Rosevear, told the Times Educational Supplement: "There is nothing wrong with presenting a different point of view to promote debate. It does not mean a student is going to say 'I believe in Genesis chapter one' any more than they are going to say evolution is fact."

But the science course leader at Sussex University's school of education, James Williams, said: "This is not science, it is not recognised by the scientific community and to legitimise it like this is wrong."

While students are 'encouraged' to discuss this 'alternative interpretation' perhaps they will be allowed to also discuss Menocchio's dairy genesis, or the interpretation that flying pink rabbits created the world in 2 hours and are monitoring genetics? No i don't think so. :bah:

Mox,

Sorry to hear about this. Seems that some people all over the world were born with a few screws loose.

Anyone watch "UFO's and the bible" on the History channel last night? Fuck'n crazy. They took bible chapters and broke it down involving not only ufo's but aliens too. Apparently the folks walking around for 40 years in wasteland were kept alive by food dropped from a space craft and Moses took a ride in one. I don't know what was more interesting, the fact it was on the History channel or the fact that it seemed to make sense! :eyebulge:

Duke,

I haven't watched that particular show but there is evidence from most ancient cultures, around the world, of some type of "alien" contact. Normally, these are some type of pictograph depicting a saucer shaped object (often surrounded by fire) that is startling the populace or being venerated by the populace. Still a very controversial subject amongst academics.

Ahhh, religion. The purveyors of peace, love and tolerance...... Unless, of course, you happen to belong to another religion that you don't agree with or, make the heretical decision to convert from one religion to another.

In Afganistan, some guy is about to be put to death for converting from Islam to Christianity.

Kind of makes you wonder why we're not hearing much about this from the Bushies.

Yeah. You would have thought it would shore up some more support from the Christian coalition folks for the elimination of extremist Islamics.

Well, theres a bit more info on this guy in Afganistan (but I don't have any links).

Condie, Australia's PM John Howard (and several other world leaders) have voiced their disapproval, so the Afgani's first attempt at saving face is to declare the guy "insane" (probably somewhat correct) so they can let him go. The problem now is that a bunch of Afgani clerics say that he is a heretic so he must be killed if he's released. So now they're thinking of sending him either to the US or Germany.

One last interesting point. The guy actually converted 16 years ago. It only became public knowledge now because the guy is getting a divorce (or something) so someone in his family actually turned him in. Great.

"WASHINGTON - Potential presidential candidate John McCain says he longer considers evangelist Jerry Falwell to be one of the "agents of intolerance" that he criticized during a previous White House run.

The Republican senator from Arizona will be the commencement speaker in May at Liberty University, the Lynchburg, Va., institution that Falwell founded in 1971.

"We agreed to disagree on certain issues, and we agreed to move forward," McCain said Sunday on NBC's "Meet the Press."

In 2000, as he sought the Republican nomination that eventually went to George W. Bush, McCain said: "Neither party should be defined by pandering to the outer reaches of American politics and the agents of intolerance, whether they be Louis Farrakhan or Al Sharpton on the left or Pat Robertson or Jerry Falwell on the right."

On Sunday, McCain said that Christian conservatives have a major role to play in the Republican Party, but added, "I don't have to agree with everything they stand for.""

Personally, I still think Falwell is a nut, but McCain and I have "agreed to disagree on certain issues, and agreed to move forward", so that's okay.

Not much news on this subject recently so leave it to our hero, Pat Robertson, to come up with something of interest. Good old Pat is now saying that God told him to expect many storms (and maybe a tsunami) this summer.

Storms? Well, duuhhh! The tsunami could be interesting though.

Don't knock it, in a couple of centuries he'll be another of the Christian prophets we are told about.

In Canada now-

Did anyone see this- episode 'The Monkey Suit'?-

In Britain we've had this-

The pile of stinking shit that is our leader- (Tony Blair in case of confusion) is continuing with his policy of encouraging individuals of a fundamentalist religious persuasion and like groups to invest in academies. As a result they get to determine the curriculum, not surprisingly they are hiring creationist ‘science’ teachers who are naturally disposed to teaching their delusions next to evolution in science class, though apparently they still insist that come exam time the students stick rigidly to the evolution argument. Straight away it should be apparent what the message is that the fundie is giving the vulnerable students- 'you and i know that creationism is the truth, but alas! We are being persecuted by the big bad atheistic state to teach you evolution’.

Madeline Albright talking about Bush's "faith":

"When he says 'God is on our side', it's very different from (former U.S. President Abraham) Lincoln saying 'We have to be on God's side.'"

Pat must be delusional. He's confusing God with the meteorologists at NOAA, though us weather and climate scientists are about as close to being gods as anyone!

Preferred,

Very interesting distinction. Well done.

And you are a prophet! It rained heavily here last night! I guess its time to start your own church. I think Mox and I will be your first attendees.
