Alright, I'm fed up with today's rap artist. Guys like Kanye West, Bow Wow, and others are just putting out ridiculous crap. First of all, I heard on MTV that Kanye West questioned his sexuallity when he was younger. Ok, I get it now. The reason why Kanye West can string together some words is cause he is gay. Maybe he should write a book of poetry with Jewel rather then put out lame rap songs. Now we got guys like Bow Wow, and Lil Romeo putting out crappy rap songs about their jewlery and cars and they act like they are "hard". We also got 50 Cent and The Game who agreed to end their fued because they want to set a good example for children. Wow. Now I am an old school rap fan and I want to know what 2-Pac, Biggy Smalls, Too-Short have to say about this crap these rappers put out. Making an example for children? 2-Pac once rapped that he'd make sure Biggy's children don't grow cuz he's gonna blow him away with his .44. Well I guess today's rappers know that they we'll end up dead if they go at each other and I'm not enducing violence. But Chris Rock said it best when he said today's rap is so shitty, that the best rapper today is a white guy (Eminem). I would just like to hear what everyone else has got to say about today's Hip Hop world.

I think all of today's rap is garbage with the exceptions being the Roots, a couple of songs by Outkast, and Jay-Z. As far as old-school stuff is concerned, I can't relate to gang banging and growing up in the hood at all. But I cannot deny that NWA and other groups were rapping about far more relevant topics. In other words, NWA had an audience because they were rapping about hard times, hood life, police brutality, and selling drugs. And whether I sound racist or not, white people weren't generally buying their records back then. Nowadays, rap artists talk about the hard life as they're wearing diamond necklaces and strut around Bentleys and Lambos. It just isn't as genuine as it used to be. Fuck, a guy can release one shitty demo tape, get signed by a big label, and before you know it, Lil John is remixing their shit. The mainstream rap industry is just as "manufactured" as the pop industry and I beg for somebody to disagree.

Bow Wow, Lil Romeo & Fiddy deserve to get shot, there all WACK, atleast The Game posses an ounce of lyrical ability.

Hmmm, i can't remember Chris Rock saying that, but anyways, that comments stupid, although i'm not white myself, rappers shouldn't be judged by there skin colour, they should be judged by skill ONLY, i'm not a fan of Eminems [i only liked his Infinite album]

Well if you watch MTV etc, 99% of what they play is utter garbage, 50 cent, Em etc.
Thats why i sty listening to underground rap, or emcees like Common, Nas, Talib, Mos Def, rappers who actually have something to say, and have talent.

Raps got to the point where, people just want to make money, 50 Cent thinks he BETTER then NAS cause his album sold more? LOL.

The mainstream rap game is fucked up...

All these kids who this Em And 50 are the shit...should get beat...

What I don't get about "rap" is that they label bad values as "TALENT", ok so you can use BAD english and strings some words together, all the while your "album" has samples from 10 different people, Why do you have to take other peoples stuff and ruin it. Could it be because you lack... real talent? Let's see a rapper play guitar and rap at the same time. And it's not just rap, it's pop music, and even country too... But the thing that gets me about rap is they want to talk about killing people, using drugs, and abusing women, why does that make you such a bad ass, i think it makes them utterly childish and dare i say it, Ignorant.

Ma'elkoth you said it right. Rap is what it is. They steal beats and talk over them. People get kind of angry when I say this but, every rap star steals beats, sure maybe some have come up with SOME original beats but the have all sampled or stolen beats at one point which I do not consider a talent. If you don't believe me try this site and type in any rapper (the site has most big name rappers) and see the beats that they have stolen http://the-breaks.com/

I know that rock and roll bands are not all innocent either (beck, the white stripes) but for the most part but they are original when it comes to the music portion.

Also the amount of lip-syncing that rappers do at their "concerts" is just flat out laughable. Why are rappers lip-syncing? IMO there is no excuse for lip-sync but I can kind of understand when people like Madonna, Britney lip-sync with the crazy choreographed dancing they do for the entire show. Why are rappers lip-syncing? They can't wave their hands in the air "like they just don't care" , tap their chest and "talk" at the same time?

One rap concert that i saw though (3 times) was the beastie boys, and I do not think they were lip-sycing but you never know.

well when your smoking weed before the concert, its kind of hard to get the energy to go out and spit out

the rhymes from their minds
when its time to relive the crimes
so the beats are mines, and lets not get fines
just because I can rap when it times.

Just for that someone should mix that up with a beat and sell that. We could be RICH!!!! Hahahahahhaa

You guys are all forgetting that it's tricky to rock a rhyme, to rock a rhyme, to rock a rhyme that's right on time. You have to give them some credit.

Lordy Lord, I forgot about my boys!
"I like my sugar with coffee and cream!"
You know who I'm talking about.
Oh and nekkid, they don't lip-sync, they just mess up a lot haha.
Mixmaster Mike goes new-school with the beats sometimes and
the Beasties are getting a bit old. Hard to keep up ya know?

No they don't lip-sync but they gotta give their friends jobs, so their "dj" who stands there and says yeah yeah yeah ect through the whole song is just there 'homie', He just nplays their recording and they say the last word of every line with 12 other of their friends while waving sweat, cum, and liquor filled towels around... lol sorry i thought that was somewhat funny...

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that nekkid is completely missing the point when it comes to "stealing beats." First of all, the practice is called "sampling" and while I dislike much of today's rap music, there are plenty of good rap artists that make good use of samples. The Beastie Boys have an excellent history with samples, just listen to "She's Crafty." Besides just rap, there are some kickass dj's that can make entire songs out of nothing but random samples. For a great example, download the song "Frontier Psychiatrist" by The Avalanches. They sample various western movie quotes and combine them to make a unique song.

I will admit that some rappers either suck at sampling or take it too far.
The only example that i can think of where stealing of a beat actually occured is "Ice, ice, Baby."
Vanilla Ice obviously took the beat from "Under Pressure" and things only got worse when he tried to explain how his beat wasn't the same.
