A Better Web Experience
Firefox 1.5 has an intuitive interface and blocks viruses, spyware, and popup ads. It delivers web pages faster than ever. And it’s easy to install and import your favorites. Packed with useful features like tabbed browsing, Live Bookmarks, and an integrated Search bar, Firefox will change the way you experience the Web, for the better.

Faster Browsing
Enjoy quick page loading as you navigate back and forward in a browsing session. Improvements to the engine that powers Firefox deliver more accurate display of complex web sites, support for new Web standards, and better overall performance.

Automatic Updates
The new Software Update feature makes it easy to get the latest security and feature updates to Firefox. Firefox automatically downloads these small updates in the background and prompts you when they are ready to be installed.

Tabbed Browsing
Use tabbed browsing to open multiple web pages in a single browser window, and quickly flip back and forth. Drag and drop open tabs to keep related pages together.

Improved Pop-up Blocking
Firefox’s built-in pop-up blocker has been enhanced to block more unwanted pop-up and pop-under ads.

Integrated Search

Tap into the power of the Web’s most popular search engines with the built-in Search bar, and easily add new engines.

Stronger Security
Firefox keeps you secure when you’re browsing the Web, closing the door on spyware, worms, and viruses. The Firefox community of developers and security experts works around the clock to monitor security issues and release updates to better protect you.

Clear Private Data
Protect your privacy with the new Clear Private Data tool. With a single click, you can delete all personal data, including browsing history, cookies, web form entries and passwords.

Live Bookmarks
Stay up to date with your favorite Web sites and blogs. Use Live Bookmarks that update themselves automatically with the latest content from the Web.

Accessibility
Firefox 1.5 delivers easier navigation for everyone, including those who are visually or motor-impaired. Firefox is the first browser to support DHTML accessibility, which, when enabled by Web authors, allows rich Web applications to be read aloud. Users may navigate with keystrokes rather than mouse clicks, reducing the tabbing required to navigate documents such as spreadsheets. Firefox 1.5 (Windows version) is also the first browser to meet US federal government requirements that software be easily accessible to users with physical impairments.

Customize Firefox
Select new button controls for your toolbars, install extensions to add new features, or change the look of your browser with themes - the way Firefox looks and works is under your control.

Next Generation Web Support
Innovative new Web applications and services deliver a richer Web experience. Support for open Web standards in Firefox ensures you can get the most out of this emerging class of Web-based tools.

I upgraded last tnight and it deleted all my bookmarks. I also had a really big bar at the bottom where it shows the page loading bars etc..

I tried to do a system restore to an earlier point so i could copy and save my bookmarks but they now seem to be gone totally.

Any help guys??? Or am i just an idiot??

Stu,

I upgraded to 1.5 and didn't have that problem either. If you haven't backed up your bookmarks, your probably SOL.

Well, i reinstalled the old firefox which didn't work and then reinstalled 1.5 which then worked. Bloody computers.

I still have a really large grey bit under the status bar...what would cause this or is it meant to be there, its about 2" thick on a 19" monitor. could it be my screen resolution? how can i get rid of it??

stu,

I assume your using windows? Fairly easy. Just open Firefox and make sure that you can see what your talking about. Then press the Print Screen key (it may say Prt Scr or something similar). Then open up MS Paint, go to Edit and then Paste. Should bring it right in. Save the file and upload.

Hope that helps.

One last thing. When you go to save the file, probably best to save it as a .jpg rather than a .bmp but its probably not a big deal either way.

Stu,

Do you have any extensions installed? If you do, uninstall them. You can do it one by one (probably the best way) to see if you can determine which one is doing it or just get rid of them all and see if Firefox goes back to the way it should be. If, after you've uninstalled all the extensions, Firefox looks the same, uninstall Firefox completely (make sure you've backed up your bookmarks first!!!!!) from the Control Panel. Also, go into Windows Explorer and delete the C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox folder. Then I'd at least run CCleaner and hope that it gets rid of all instances of Firefox that it finds.

Reboot and then reinstall Firefox. If it looks OK, then start adding the extensions one at a time.

See if that works.

Just looked at your image a bit closer and it looks like there is an "error loading toolbars" message. Try uninstalling all of those toolbars first and see if that helps. Those things are still a bit of a pain (and can be dangerous). Then go and try the above.

Minidido,

I Deleted all my Extensions and the bar is back to how it should look again. All functionality and speed is restored. Just for reference i had "Linky", Yahoo toolbar, "Download them all" and "open page in IE" as extensions.

I got rid of them all so the problem was either one of those or a combination. I'm sure they will be updated soon enough so i will try and reload them soon.

Many many thanks to you and to Onerythym for your help. I can now surf porn again. Reps to both of you.

Hey Stu,

No problem glad things are back to normal. Just be careful with those toolbars. Some of them are known to be nothing more than fronts for spyware (I don't use any of them). So the next time you decide to add one, do a little research on the toolbar before allowing it on your system.

Good luck.

Personally I think its not great, as some of my extensions don't work, and it crashes nearly every time I use it. It just hangs and when I close the windows I have open, I have to then ctr-alt-del as it still thinks its running in the background. If it wasn't for the useful web developer extensions I use I'd be tempeted to uninstall it.

Loz,

As i am now an expert on how much 1.5 can fuck with you heres my advice (stolen entirely from min and one).

Uninstall any extensions you carried across from the previous release, reinstall them one at a time, i tried to update my extensions to fix the problem but it did not work. when i reinstalled them it worked fine, also had to get rid of my yahoo toolbar and reinstall that too.

I think that may be the only way with some of your extensions.

Hope it helps

I just downloaded the latest update a couple nights ago...I think I went from 1.5.0.1 to 1.5.0.3. Anyway, pages load faster now. I'm not a web guy so don't know if I'm using the right terminology, but in the past when I went to a page in FFox, even one I'd been to that you know has a lot of cached images....it would first show me the placeholders for the images, then the images would fill in. Now after this update I don't see the placeholders...it just paints the screen.
